Though string lights have generally been associated with the Christmas holiday, consumers are increasingly using decorative lighting year round. Today’s trends include not only the holidays and seasonal themes, but whimsical designs and classic touches that allow consumers to express their personal style or sense of humor.
Today’s outdoor lighting is being used in more creative ways. Instead of only using lights to line porches or gutters, consumers are highlighting trees and other landscape features, wrapping decks, lining umbrellas, and creating lighted overhangs to make outdoor rooms. Outdoor string lighting is also being brought indoors, and along with it, a more casual and fun atmosphere.
A few key trends in outdoor lighting include:
Holiday themed – going beyond just the plastic turkeys and vampire bats, holiday themed lighting is raising the bar with more refined materials and elegant design. Thanks to the choices available, consumers have the ability to find the lights that fit their specific event needs.
Paper lantern style – ranging in size and shape, paper lanterns give a softer glow to lit areas, and, unless more specifically theme related (such as paper Jack-o-Lanterns), are nice to leave up long-term.
Industrial – the indoor industrial design trend has made its way outside with the use of exposed Edison-style bulbs and oiled bronze finishes. This style really brightens the space, marrying well with entertaining areas like decks and patios, or strung between trees or posts to create a designated space.
Licensed – Up the game day party atmosphere with a favorite sports team or show off a favorite brand with licensed lights. Not only great for at home parties, they would also work for tailgating as long as an electric source was available.
