Roofing from Recyclables

January 6, 2016

The interest in green and sustainable building materials continues to grow, and part of that interest is focused on roofing made of recycled material. For customers looking to replace their existing roofs, roofing made from recycled materials might be a good option.

While some metal roofs are made from post-industrial and post-consumer materials, many recycled roofs are constructed of rubber or a rubber/plastic composite. For retailers, some of the positive selling features of this roofing material are:

  • High-end looks (like shake or slate) at a lower price point.
  • Easier installation than other materials, like slate or tile, saving on time and labor costs.
  • Lighter weight, yet high-impact resistance.
  • Made from materials removed from the waste stream, and can also be recycled, keeping it out of the landfill.
